SOFR (Secured Overnight Financing Rate) is an interest rate published by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. SOFR can be seen as the average interest rate for secured loans issued in American Dollars (USD) with a maturity of 1 day (overnight).
SOFR is a reference rate (benchmark rate), introduced as an alternative to the US Dollar LIBOR rate.
Additionally, the CME (Chicago Mercantile Exchange) has introduced CME Term SOFR rates, which provide a forecast of the SOFR rate for different maturities, such as 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. These rates are used as benchmarks for loans in U.S. Dollars with longer maturities.
