What is the SONIA interest rate?
SONIA (Sterling Overnight Index Average) is an interest rate published by the British central bank (Bank of England). SONIA can be seen as the average interest rate at which a selection of financial institutions lend to one another in British pound sterling (GBP) with a maturity of 1 day (overnight).
SONIA is as a reference rate (benchmark rate) an alternative to British pound sterling LIBOR.
