Banco Central de Chile
The central bank of Chile is called Banco Central de Chile. The monetary policy of the central bank of Chile aims to maintain the value of the Chilean currency, which is reflected in a low and stable inflation. For an overview of current inflation in Chile, click here. To achieve this objective the Chilean central bank is:
- issuing banknotes and coins;
- regulating the financial system;
- regulating the amount of money and credit.

The monetary policy rate is a base rate which provides the aim for the interbank transactions interest rate. Changing the monetary policy rate the central bank of Chile is steering the level of interbank interest rates. This has a direct impact on commercial interest rates on products like loans, mortgages and savings accounts.
